It all started in 1947 after the India - Pakistan partition when Shri Murli Dharji Mohta returned to India with his family and felt the need to settle in Kolkata in hope of a better living. Life then was surrounded with strife and hardships with an impending financial scarcity that added to their discomfort. Shri Murli Dharji Mohta had joined an accounting firm as a clerk on a meagre salary only enough to get four square meals a day. His wife Smt. Pusie Mohta tried to dodge their poverty by making rakhi's but little did she know that her humble approach was laying the foundation of a Mega Rakhi Business Empire! She passed away in 1969 leaving her small business unattended to dwindle away. Then one night in 1975 Shri Murli Dharji Mohta dreamt of her requesting him to restart their rakhi business. He had already retired from his service and was receiving a small pension. He decided to take up the challenge and with the help of his son who had newly graduated he started the rakhi business again! In 1983 Shri Murli Dharji Mohta passed away leaving the fairly successful rakhi business to his son Shri Jiwan Das Mohta.

Shri Jiwan Das Mohta nurtured his father's dream along with his nephews turning it into a brand to reckon with in the Rakhi Industry. With his keen untiring business zeal and zest he has acquired a distinct place for Shree by pioneering in works of ari Zardosi. Concrete examples of his exploitation skills showed when he turned to Cottage Industry workers in a bid to expand his business both in size and standardizing quality. With access to 1.5 lack artisans working around the year for his brand Shree he introduced holograms for each of his products to ensure strict quality control. Several factories spread out in over 100 km radius of Kolkata City and its suburbs have Shree workers churning out over 3000 exquisite fresh/new rakhi designs every year! To protect against piracy the Shree household does not allow local sale of its products as a policy. With a strong foothold in North India Shree plans to make its presence felt in South India too as being the single largest and most organised company in the Rakhi Industry from Eastern India! It has been organizing a yearly exhibition around the month of April at the famous five-star Claridges in Delhi to activate a wide domestic as well as international dealer network for enhanced wholesale and retail trade as a channel of effective distribution.

The exhibition has turned into a kind of tradition for the past successful 10 years. By such means Shree sells directly to its consumers. It has no authorised agents. It operates directly from its head office in Kolkata city. Shree sells its rakhi's to more than 5000 customers directly covering above 700 odd domestic locations/ stations floating 5000 odd varieties in Zari Moli Lumba Dori Kids Bhaiya-Bhabhi set etc. in both its finished as well as unfinished product categories each year. Several Greetings Cards with and without rakhi's are also manufactured under the brand Shree.
